National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST) located on a hillside in northeastern Neipu Township in Pingtung, Taiwan, occupies 285 hectares adjacent to Da-Wu Mountain and Dong-Gang Creek with the largest and most beautiful campus in Taiwan. NPUST currently is home to seven colleges, including the colleges of Agriculture, Engineering, Management, Humanities and Social Science, Veterinary Medicine, Professional Studies, and International College. Each college has developed comprehensive educational resources in diverse disciplines of study. By integrating the strengths of these seven colleges, NPUST has achieved encouraging results in comprehensive interdisciplinary education and research. The university also houses the National Botanical Garden, the Center for Wildlife Conservation and Management, the Art and Culture Industry Innovation and Incubation Center, various exhibition farms, and specimen collection centers. All these facilities enhance the capacity of the university. For many consecutive years, NPUST has received project grants from the Ministry of Education for â€œExcellence in Teachingâ€ and â€œTechnical Skills Trainingâ€. In light of trends moving in the direction of the diversification and internationalization of education, NPUST has adopted a multi-channel strategy which promotes a variety of learning environments that can meet the current needs for higher education. The goal is to cultivate both interdisciplinary and single-focus professionals in a variety of fields and foster students who are skilled in engaging in macro learning and independent thinking. Also, the university features interdisciplinary agriculture. New interdisciplinary agriculture talent cultivation projects help create innovative interdisciplinary curriculum, from fundamental and core knowledge to specialized practical learning objectives, students are equipped with professional skills needed to face fast changes in working environments. NPUST has been strengthening industry-academia cooperation, integrating academic and industry joint-education to build up create a practical learning model orientated towards real capabilities and to improve studentsâ€™ competitiveness.
