In terms of its methodology, UI Green Metric is based one three philosophical reasons which is Environment, Economic and Equity (3’Es). The ranking has five indicators: Green Statistics (24%), Energy and Climate Change (28%), waste management (15%), water usage (15%) and transportation facility (24%). These criteria selected based on what we thought to be important by University that concerns with environmental issue. These include the collection of a basic profile of the size of the university and its zoning profile, whether urban, suburban or rural. Beyond this we want to see the degree of green space. The next category of information concerns electricity consumption because of its link to our carbon footprint. Then we also want to know about its transport system, water usage, and waste management.

After introducing the “Bike to Campus” program, development of new library with “Green Sustainable Development” concept, and also the re-allocation of five massive African Baobab trees aging over hundred years old used for research and conservation, the UI Green Metric is the latest effort by University of Indonesia in providing comprehensive reference in regards to the campus infrastructure in universities around the world that is environment friendly. We are hoping that UI Green Metric Ranking will complement other leading rankings that is used as reference by universities all over the world like: THES, QS, Webometrics, Green Report Card, HEEACT and Shanghai Jiao Tong World Rankings.
